Re: Air NZ Dish?
I have one of these and hadn't thought about looking for a number for it, which I will now do when I get time.
Re: Air NZ Dish?
Ha! Couldn't wait to have a look ......
How about this -
1185 Air NZ Maori Pattern Ashtray 14.8.73
I've seen this listed as an ashtray a few times and thought pffffttttt, but I can't find anything else. The records say it was made in Christchurch, but it has the distinct Honey Glaze that was used at Titian ..... let me find my pic.
I've always thought of it as a plate hmmmm not sure and need some support please.
One would think that it would have been made around the same time as the 1134 Air NZ Beaker ..

Re: Air NZ Dish?
Ev on the plus side I have sometimes referred to this as an ashtray and then thought SURELY not... It must be a dish. But they did smoke on planes in those days and it was an era when giant ashtrays were the norm. On the negative side, it looks like a Titian factory glaze so unlikely to be made at Luke Adams. I'd give the odds at 50/50 it's the 1185 ashtray..
How's that for a fence-sit?
I don't recall anything in my newsletters or interview notes that would help either.
I will check tomorrow.

Re: Air NZ Dish?
Val Monk's blog says that she assumes that this dish is an ashtray and I think she is right ... as it definitely has a Polynesian flavour to it, so into the Gallery it goes as the 1185
