Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
Yes I understand your hesitation Janice. As they call the Apollo ware "Fluted" I just jumped onto that band wagon. What we really need are some more catalogues/price lists that show the shape number and the pattern, like my glorious catalogue does.
So for now we wait ..... for more info

A memo
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pottery-glass/Porcelain-pottery/Crown-Lynn/Cups-saucers/auction-704715211.htm
I've put this Sunglow link here as a reminder to myself as I forget one thing when my interest is piqued by something else.
Many years ago I bought a set of Sunglow (orange) trios and noting there was some crazing, decided to keep an eye out for replacements in my travels.
I knew nothing of Crown Lynn shapes then, a little now. What I found was that while mine looked like a shape 25 3019 cup, they were much lighter and finer, and all I could find to replace them were the standard weight 3019s in the same pattern.
I have not seen any others anywhere to the best of my knowledge.
Seeing this listing reminded me that I had seen descriptions for lightweight cups or some such in the galleries but having now looked cannot see anything to fit.
I guess I should say it was not just the cups but saucers and B&Bs that were lighter than usual. Vitrified doesn't craze so they may be stoneware.
They may still be in a the sideboard at Auckland, but I may not be down until Easter to look.

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
I'm wondering whether the coffee can at position 21 above is vitrified, as I see one in this shape on tm that must be:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Antiques-collectables/auction-715703967.htm
It looks like a 3036/37/38 shape with perhaps a 3050 handle, but it's hotel/hospital ware surely therefor vit.
-----
On another matter 3069 description is 3044 with 3050 handle, yet the 3044 in the gallery already appears to have a 3050 handle.

I don't know if these shapes have been posted yet.
This cup is vitrified. It is actually Made In England!

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
Two of the first three have been identified and the first one we are still working on. The last two are very interesting and are reminiscent of Titian shapes. I feel that I've seen the pink shape before ..... ? I've never seen the last shape before. Do either have any markings on the base?
Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
Hello, The pinkish one says Made in New Zealand and the last one shock horror is Made In England. Hubby says we need to invest in a UV torch.

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
Picked up one of these the other day and here is a clear shot of the handle and base...
Now I'm wondering if it is the 3039 soup cup ? Gahhh
Not sure if the base matches the 3039 though ..... ???
I tire quickly doing these comparisons atm!

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
Not a 3039 Ev. The handle is similar but I don't think the same.
It looks like the "Honey Cup" 3066 - 29.3.84. Handle looks similar, likewise base, but the body looks taller than the one in the gallery. Honey Cup is yours so you can compare.
Next guess, I'm wondering if a stork could indicate a "Japanese Coffee Mug" 3059 8.3.82

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
It's nothing like the honey cup and I didn't think of a stork, but a pied stilt heheee
The handle is an exaggerated 781 or 3066, but is much wider, bigger and more robust, sort of like the soup cup handle.
I will take a pic comparing it to the honey cup for your consideration Jeremy.

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
Ev, 3066 in the gallery is described as "Honey Cup"!
But, fair enough, I don't know my birds.
I have the soup cup in front of me and see a different profile from your pic:
chunkier top and bottom where it joins the body.

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
The 3056 Phillipine Bell Cup and the 3066 Honey Cup have the same handle.
This handle is different from any that I've seen before, so I know it will have a different number now that the soup mug has been cancelled as an option.
Where are you Janice ?????? I need your help !!!!

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
Here's a list of six numbers from the gallery, with descriptions:
3047 - 5.5.78 Mug with Large Handle
3057 - 29.6.81 Canadian Mug
3059 8.3.82 Japanese Coffee Mug
3064 - 20.10.84 Monster Mug 3057 Handle
3065 - 29.3.84 California Mug
3067 - 29.3.84 Monster Mug 3065 Handle
We have a lot of mugs already that I think will fit in here, including:
your latest, the big mugs with monsters (which could be "Monster Mugs"!), my "Bear" mug ( http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t2158p75-show-us-your-mugs-crown-lynn-of-course#17516 ), the one with the fruit currently sitting at number 17 at the top of this topic, which makes four.
Your mug has the same "transfer" as Val's "Pied Stilt", and may be the same shape:
http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t2158p75-show-us-your-mugs-crown-lynn-of-course#14881 The handle of Val's "World's Greatest Grandpa" mug from the same post is obscured but the base looks like that of the stilt mugs.
I've tried to adjust these to the same size for comparison:
It would be easier with the actual mugs of course.
Anyway, at the least this is two shapes, but if each of the patterns is a different "shape" there may be more.
It would help to know the process by which the patterns are applied: is it all in the transfer/glaze, or in the body of the mug?

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
Yes my pied stilt mug is the same as Val's and Grandpa may well be the same too.
Only the monster mug has transfers/decals, the rest have the pattern 'etched' into the glaze somehow.
I only see two shapes in your montage, top the same and bottom the same.
I always think of a large handle when I see this mug shape and it's brothers -

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
Our grandpa mug looks to be the same shape as the flowers and leaves in the centre top row. Grandpa looks like a transfer. My pied stilt is more embossed into the glaze, a sort of low-key version of the landscape style. And my pied stilt mug shape looks the same as ev's. They both have a very high foot ring, if you get my drift Ev. You are an amazing team, you have no idea how much I admire your tenacity in sorting out these numbers and shapes... It just makes my head spin!

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
I use the museums search engine and type in the numbers we haven't identified.
I've found quite a few but don't want to disrupt Ev's process.
I've also found a few high number castware shapes by just typing in numbers that we don't have. It's addictive.

Re: Rattling those cups !!!!
It took me 3 hours to go through quickly from 1 to 4999, but I had to do that as I was looking for things. I know they have an alphabetical sequence, but I wanted to check everything out and not miss a thing. I wrote down heaps of numbers to check out and I will go through the lot again more thoroughly when I get time. It is simple to find things again by using their search engine.
