Kiln Craft ....
Kiln Craft were in Rosebank Road, Avondale.
Don McKenzie was the Manager.
I have read that Kiln Craft in England was opposed to Kiln Craft NZ using their name and that they took legal action to ensure that their name was not used.
This is how Kiln Craft changed their name to Clay Craft.

Kiln Craft mug
This is all the Kiln Craft I have!
Mug stands 105mm high, OD 68mm, flairing to 76mm at the lip.
The flair is less exaggerated than my photo indicates.

KilnCraft canister
$2 from Avondale, a couple of tiny kicks but it gives me a KilnCraft base mark.
H 180mm (top of lid) OD 120mm
I've seen it a few times but it took me a while to translate.

Re: Kiln Craft ....
Ev,
Picked one of those up at Avondale on Sunday, exact same glaze with "BEACH NZ".
My only Beach at this point.
I knew the mug but didn't read the bottom until later so I was thrilled.
I already have the shape in Kiln Craft.

Re: Kiln Craft ....
I'm surprised that I've never found one of those canisters with the amount turning up on here. I must put that ornate backstamp into the gallery!
Re: Kiln Craft ....
Brilliant image of the back stamp.
I have never seen it so clear.
ambrosia, you have a really cheap Sallies shop. Ours had same item for $4 and it was damaged.

Re: Kiln Craft ....
Today at Te Toi Uku i was shown some samples made at Kiln Craft on Rosebank Road made by Keith Walley. Keith came to New Zealand from Stoke-on-Trent to work at Crown Lynn; when the factory started closing down he moved to Kiln Craft as a ?designer (c.1985). Keith and his wife Cynthia were trained as potters in various factories in Stoke. As the ceramics industry started to collapse they moved back to England. Only the jar is marked.

Re: Kiln Craft ....
Finn, the canister and sugar bowl shapes date from Beach Artware days and continued to be made until the final incarnation that was Clay Craft, but I have not seen the belly mugs marked earlier than Clay Craft: are they definitely Keith's design?

I'll write to Keith and ask him. The mugs are very clever - they look thrown, but on closer inspection they are slipcast. There is no marking on the base.
