Re: Shape 797 Mini Chamber pot
Hmm the one at the exhibition That was owned by Richard Quinn is the same as this one and I have seen the Auckland Museum drawing Potty in the "Clay" and it is a white glazed replica of this one with a wee saying along the lines of use me well and keep me clean and i wont tell what I seen.
Re: Shape 797 Mini Chamber pot
I think the hole in the handle in the sketch has been created by the sketching process. Richard's 797 drawing from the 1-881 list, possibly done from the piece mrnanrna has seen, doesn't show a hole. It also has a more rounded top to the handle than in real life. Those drawings were never going to win any technical drawing prizes.
My vote is for replacing the sketch with mrnarna's photo.

Re: Shape 797 Mini Chamber pot
Heheeee I do enjoy a shape debate
Tony do you have a copy of the original mini potty that the sketch was made from?
It is hard to see the real shape .... but you might see the handle clearer ....?
There seem to be a couple of miniature potties from Crown Lynn .... salemans samples it seems.
What is the height and width of this one narna?

Re: Shape 797 Mini Chamber pot
I think the one with the saying "Use me well and keep me clean and I won't tell what I have seen."... and it has an eye on the inside bottom is the 797. It matches the drawing from the Museum more than the one you have narna. Plus it has a hole in the handle. We will have to find one to be able to compare them
Re: Shape 797 Mini Chamber pot
Hello ,
I have one of these - same colour same shape also more importantly it has
"Crown Lynn New Zealand" stamped on the bottom - pretty conclusive really.
The backstamp is from 1948-1955,....
I can up some photos if anyone wants me to.....
cheers

Re: Shape 797 Mini Chamber pot
hi Ev,
no there are no numbers that I can see.
I was really happy to get this for $7.50 in a 2nd hand traders shop.
It was buried underneath some modern chinese rubbish - where there's muck there's brass as my late Nana would say...
Cheers

Re: Shape 797 Mini Chamber pot
How marvellous and thanks to Kat & Co for sending photos to the site of the possible 797 Chamber Ashtray that matches the Auckland Museum drawing !!!!!!
Though I've never seen that backstamp before, so we need to discuss this shape please.

Not an Ashtray, just a novelty me thinks..
The Transfer is just sitting on the surface of this Potty sometimes in humid weather it is tacky, so the eye would get ruined first time its used as ashtray..Kat

Hmmmm that makes me wonder if the decals haven't been fired onto the glaze, but just stuck on, which is not the kind of thing that Crown Lynn did .....
Interesting point though.
Re: Shape 797 Mini Chamber pot
Just bumped into that MADE IN NEW ZEALAND backstamp in Val Monk's book .....
page 158, third row across - 3rd one down.
Heavily leaning towards this being the correct shape for the 797 now ....
just need two others to agree
