Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
Crown Lynn bought out Luke Adams Potteries in Christchurch in 1965.
Here is a list of the pieces made that I have come across in the Decoration Advices and the Modellers records .....
The references include Made by Luke Adams, Chch, Souvenir Ware and the two glaze names - Basalt - Deco No 124 and Lucow - Deco No 147 there will be more.
Lucow comes up a lot .... this appears to be a glaze name that is on the Ngakura Ware and the Mark Cleverly Coffee Pot that I have..... does anyone know where the name Lucow would have came from? It's a lovely waxy rich greeny blue glaze.
Basalt is another glaze name that repeats over and over again .... perhaps the rich brown glaze that they used? Well that's my guess at the moment
I found one other Deco No - 123 with the reference Homestead - Luke Adams ... not sure which glaze this one is yet.

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
Can you add any more shape numbers/descriptions using your information Heather?
You have the power to edit my post to add anything.
Also I noticed that the pin box lids didn't have Chch beside them .... do you have any further info on them or for the bases? I saw one in the Titian area at the Papakura Museum and would really like to suss this out. It wasn't glazed in the Ngakura glaze either.

I have added some Ev and have another dozen or so. In my notes the lid is un-named as to where it came from but is in the section for Christchurch so would think it a safe bet.

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
Excellent Heather.
The pin box base is 1027 ..... anything on your notes referring to Chch?
As 1071 Seagars Ashtray and the 1075 Lamp Shade are listed as Titian around the pin box lids, it may be better to wait for some more info to come to light.

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
Ev, my notes refer to 1027 as the pinbox body (Chch) and then 1028 as the pinbox lid (Chch). It seems to be Chch pretty much all the way down to 1069 and then titian and then Chch from 1076 to 1099.

Sounds good to me. Does the 1028 lid have a description?
1072 is a Pin Box lid with overall carving - to go with 1027
1073 Pin Box lid Post Head carving - to go with 1027
They must have made the 1028 first ...?

This Topic is too big .... too hard to find everything, so I will make a new one for Luke Adams/Crown Lynn and split this into individual topics .....

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
With the recent info from the Crown Lynn records at the Museum, I've added all of the shapes that I can find that were made at Christchurch.
The first entry is for 18.7.1968 and the last for is 30.11.1976, so it seems that Crown Lynn only owned this pottery for just over 8 years .... ?
I wonder what happened to it after that?
I could only find 84 shapes that were made in Christchurch, which seems a very small amount, perhaps there are more?

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
There is a great little book on Luke Adams called Luke Adams His Family and His Pottery By A.F.R.Adams. On page 25 In 1975 the whole business closed down.

Is there any mention of the Crown Lynn years?

The company was officially taken over by Consolidated Brick and Pipe Ltd, the parent company of Crown Lynn on March 31 1965.Thats about it as far as CL details go, maybe you could get more information from the museum down in Chirstchurch.

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
Thanks so much signal
I thought I should check out what Gail Henry says about the subject and found some info on pages 98 and 99 [2nd Edition]:
Luke Adams Pottery Ltd became a susidiary of Crown Lynn Potteries Ltd by 1965.
The kilns finished firing in September 1975.
Ngakura range designed by Crown Lynn info.

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
Thanks Jeremy as you reminded me about the list of Luke Adams wares that were made for Crown Lynn on the first post in this topic.
There are 83 items on the list and in the last 3 years we have managed to find 46 of these shapes which is well over half way.
Well done everyone and keep up the good work
I've crossed out all of the shapes that are in the Gallery.
I am impressed - Check it out for yourself !

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
Thanks Jeremy, all taken care of now.
Basalt mugs (+1032, 1104?)
1043 mug in Basalt can be crossed off Ev:
https://www.newzealandpottery.net/t5471-castware-1043-mug-in-original-basalt-glaze#20620
1032 is Shape 25 sugar pot lid according to gallery: it would be odd to see this in Basalt but it is on the list as such. There is no 3021 sugar pot on the list. (????)
Looks like the only Adams MUG shapes yet to come are 1039 and 1042 (for which we have modellers' pics and) which are likely to be seen in one of the Adams glazes, and "1191 - Elf-eared Handle Coffee Mug" (for which we have no image at all yet so glaze unknown).
Luke Adams mug shapes in Basalt here:
https://www.newzealandpottery.net/t5224-15-different-basalt-mugs-from-cl-luke-adams#19513
I have no 1057 Cleverley mugs in Basalt but there is one in the gallery from mrnarna: I haven't checked for the original post yet.
I don't think we have a Basalt 1054 but we do have it in Lucow, courtesy of fi:
https://www.newzealandpottery.net/t5320-tankards-in-two-sizes-courtesy-of-fi-in-lucow-basalt-and-possibly-homestead-decor-123#19977
I have two Basalt 1064s, one in the shape that Portage have and one in the other shape that I take to be an earlier 1064 version since you showed me it wasn't a 1042:

http://www.nzmuseums.co.nz/account/3384/object/489015/Mug_-_bisque
Portage have nothing on the missing mug shapes 1039, 1042, and 1191.
I do have a spoon somewhere that I think MAY be a 1104: as I write I remember that it is brown so it may be Basalt. I must find and post it some time. It's not exactly like the modellers' sketch in the gallery but it is similar (being a spoon).

Jeremy said "1032 is Shape 25 sugar pot lid according to gallery: it would be odd to see this in Basalt but it is on the list as such. There is no 3021 sugar pot on the list. (????)"
When I gathered these numbers I had no idea what the shapes were and it was all rather exciting at the time
I've had a quick look at the Deco Advices, but didn't notice the 1032 that I recorded.
There is no systematic list as they are all over the place and just like the patterns, I don't think that all of the shapes are there either. I will look further into your query when I get time Jeremy as we both know that the Shape 25 sugar pot lid will be incorrect and I need to find out what it was.
I have seen both the 1073 and 1080 pin box lids on TradeMe, but they sold for silly prices!

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
I have found this list to be a great resource and have really enjoyed watching the numbers getting crossed off. I love the Adams glazes and can never get enough. I have made a new montage of 15 Basalt mugs (combining existing pics) all but one of which is mine. I now have the 1040 shape courtesy of Kat (31/3/15) but for the record centre top pic is by mrnarna.

Re the 1032 Basalt, I've backtracked through my records and found the entry in the Decoration Advices that read 124 - Basalt - 1032
I would suggest that there is a typing error regarding the number and I will delete that number from our list.
Nice photo of your Basalt mugs Jeremy !!

Re: Crown Lynn shapes made at Luke Adams in Christchurch 1969 - 1975
Ev I just noticed what I think could be a woopsie in the list.
"1076 - Mug with C Handle Lucow - 1970
"1077 - Mug with C Handle ...... I have one!!!
"1078 - Coffee Mug C Handle Basalt - 1970
"1079 - Coffee Mug C Handle Basalt - 1970"
Wondering if the "C handle" definition belongs with all four mug shapes, or just the first.
I know the 1076 and 1077 were both made at Luke Adams as I have them both in Basalt. I have the other two shapes, 1078 and 1079, but not in Basalt (as far as I know) so I'm wondering whether they definitely are Adams shapes too.
I understand it was a bit of work compiling this list from various sources so be assured I am not expecting an instant reply.
Oh, 1142 Po sugar basin can be crossed off too.
And thank you for the comment on the mugs.
I'm re/arranging my new shelf and I think I will try and put all my Basalt and Lucow together. It could take up a bit of room!
