Cook & Serve Casserole with Sapphire pattern
Bonjour,
I recently found a casserole with the beautiful Sapphire pattern in a community bazaar. The backstamp (see photo) says "Cook & Serve" and my research tells me that the pattern is "Sapphire". It seems to me that this casserole must have been produced in the 1980s. Am I wrong? Any information on this beautiful piece would be greatly appreciated.

Kia Ora to you valoy
That is a beauty and it is in the Shape 25 shape.
These were produced from 1967 and the Cook & Serve range is very strong and durable and can be found still going strong, although the lids do go astray.
How wonderful to see one in the Sapphire pattern.
The shape number is 5613 for the 2 pint one and 5615 for the 4 pint one.
These can be found in the Crown Lynn Shapes Gallery:

Thanks a lot Ev !
The casserole is in great shape and it's always a surprise to find such a beautiful piece so far away from NZ.
Regards,
Valoy

Re: Cook & Serve Casserole with Sapphire pattern
One of the most popular patterns for Crown Lynn Canada, Caplan's in Montreal was a major retailer along with Eaton's.
We also knew the popularity as in those days the dinnerware came thru the port of Montreal as loose cargo, not in sealed containers, and at first only 20pce sets would be missing. After Crown Lynn became more popular we would notice bulk cartons of accessories had been opened and cream jugs, covered sugars, salts and peppers etc to match would have pilfered with Sapphire being the most frequent.

Very interesting Dale.
The Port of Montreal has long been known to harbor “questionable operations”, like most ports in the world, I imagine. This is now done on a different scale with the containers.
Your sources (and yourself) are really knowledgeable. Thank you very much for those juicy details .
The same for the distributors. I know Eaton well but I was not aware of Caplan.
