Re: Crown Lynn Swan 2147
Hi there, I was following your auction with interest, as Crown Lynn swans are not so popular since there were fakes found right around the country. People are very suspicious of them now, especially the expensive medium swan. I don't blame them, as many people have been ripped off, by greed.
This topic will fill you in and there are other topics if you search for the word fakes:

Re: Crown Lynn Swan 2147
The fakes have the 2147 number on them. The only difference is that they look brand new. The clay colour is different if it is compared to a real one. Also the weights of the fakes are not consistent for size. The big collector is HeatherT and you can search her in the memberlist and then private message her.
If you have trouble let me know and I will contact her.

Re: Crown Lynn Swan 2147
Heather, Manos and I were asked by the Henderson Police to identify the fakes.
This was easy in many regards, especially the black Medium swan which had a horrible dull matt ugly glaze on them. The white Medium was quite tricky, other than the weights varied and they looked too new.
Also the McAlpine jugs were spot on regarding the colours .... but there were a few missing details that pointed out that they were fakes.
I wouldn't like to try to identify a single swan as a real or a fake.
It was easy when there were boxes and boxes of fakes everywhere.
I saw 2 large female swans at an Antique Fair yesterday and I shuddered as they were not stamped and looked very new. None of the fakes were stamped, but they did have the shape numbers on them.
Also the fakes have only been around about 18 months or so. If you had yours before this time, then you are safe.
Sorry that the site has been out most of the day, but that is out of our control.
