Fluted Dish from Heather ...... is a 737
The has the old Made In New Zealand stamp on it. It looks old too, but Heather cannot read the numbers!
Can anyone help? Or give her any ideas to help her read the numbers?
I will post the base in a larger format...

Heather I have an idea.
Place a thin sheet of paper over the number and gently rub a pencil over the numbers.
Like they do to read worn out gravestone words..... and on brass rubbings and stuff.
Good luck!!

I have tried your graveyard trick Ev...but the number is incised under the glaze so the glaze has filled the gaps...I think its says 737...

That stamp was used from 1943 to 1950 according to Val Monk ....

The same fluted bowl is in a photo "Well Made New Zealand" from 1948 in Gail Henry's book, page 11 1st edition. It's behind the small swan on the middle shelf.

This fluted bowl is on the Portage Ceramics site and is dated 1943 - 1950

Hmmm the link didn't work, but just scroll down the page to find it.

Re: Fluted Dish from Heather ...... is a 737
I think it likely that it is a 737 as this fits nicely with the 735, 736 and 738.
737 is already taken but like the duplicates for 736 and 738 the shape is a renumbering. Note that the fluting looks like that on the Carpay dish, 735.
Also ...
I wonder where the Crown Lynn Royal Oak dish fits in. I don't think we have a number for it yet either. 1948 to 1955 stamp. The shape may have been made earlier too though.

Woo Hoooo and you are correct Jeremy as the Auckland Museum have this fluted dish with the number 737 on the base. It's taken a while to find this one, but at last there is no doubt.

Edits to add that this number was also used for a Gravy Boat !
