Barry Ball
This was made in his early high fired stoneware days and it still gets used often.
and his mark..

Re: Barry Ball
Barry Ball also turned his hand to running a successful commercial pottery under the name of '1280 Pottery'
The ware was beautifully transformed by 'Asian' artists who decorated the work and gave it an exquisite Asian look that I highly admire. I have a few pieces and must take some pics to share.

Pics of 1280 Pottery that I have.... I always want to buy more when I see it...
A pin dish....
A bowl...
The sticker says: Hand Made in NZ 1280 Pottery.. there are no marks on the base.
but the decoration is the distinctive mark as far as I'm concerned.
I'm trying to recall where the Asian women came from who did this wonderful decorating...?
Perhaps Thailand.... but I cant be sure.

Re: Barry Ball
I saw a great Barry Ball large mug or tankard the other day, quite similar in style to that jug of yours, ev, with it's lovely 'channeled' lip, however it had been broken (several large shards) and glued at the top, so I decided against paying $6 for it.

Re: Barry Ball
I find it appalling that anyone would charge for glued up pottery.
Mind you I have the odd bit that I got from Trademe with a 'minor repair' that has been glued together .... my own fault for not asking for more info.

Re: Barry Ball
Price has been marked down since I saw it the other day, but am still not paying for it, but did get a photo!
I really do like it and was so disappointed at the damage, today I see the handle had been glued as well, not just the rim.

Re: Barry Ball
I had to laugh, because I saw this tankard again today - in a totally different op-shop to the one where I first saw it. I am guessing whoever bought it from the Sallies hadn't noticed the repair, and when they did, they donated it to the Hospice!Cat-a-lat wrote:Price has been marked down since I saw it the other day, but am still not paying for it, but did get a photo!

Are there any other 'Ball" potters besides Barry & Joanna ?
I bought this ages ago, and my brother picked it up for me, and now that I am back from my roadtrip, I have it in my collection. I am really hoping it is by Barry Ball, so could someone give me their opinion please? It stands an impressive 355mm high, and I just love the funky decoration!
Cool handle too
I have my fingers crossed !!!
