Christine Harris treasures for gallery
Admins - the two Christine Harris marks should also go in the potters marks gallery.
This lovely vase arrived this morning. Hand painted, unglazed exterior, clear glaze interior. 22 cm tall. Bought new in 1987 by the person who sold it to me.
The two vases below are the same shape, both 33 cm high. The vase on the left is from the days before Christine and her business partner formed Studio Ceramics. You can see some of the wildness of her decoration was tamed at Studio Ceramics! When i found the vase on the left, I thought it was a hobby ceramics piece, it was dirty and priced at $4 in a charity shop. When I got outside and looked at the mark I was so overcome I rushed back into the shop and gave them more money for it.
This is the signature on the vase on the left... the other has the standard Studio Ceramics Christine Harris mark.
Lastly this amazing piece of art is still owned by the person who sold me the hand painted vase above. It is about 30 cm tall and I would swap my husband for one of these... well maybe not but I would be tempted! The owner tells me that the base is dated 1987, but she remembers it was in the shop for some time before she bought it. Photo courtesy Liz Clarke.
EDITED to add a pic of the base of this vase. Thanks again to Liz Clarke.

Re: Christine Harris treasures for gallery
I'm so pleased that the vase arrived safely Val. I was worried.
Looking forward to seeing it Thursday.
The one in the bottom pic looks very interesting too.
How much if this sort of work do you see there around?

Re: Christine Harris treasures for gallery
You hardly ever see them Jeremy. I have pounced on any I have found. I have been looking for one of the tall vases in bold colours with spots for a few years and have never seen one. Liz said it was in the shop for some time before she bought it so maybe they weren't that popular, in which case Christine H would not have made many.
