M. Exler & Son - Lion mantle ornament
This Lion has been handed down through my father's mother's side. She was related to Moses Exler. This sat on my grandparents mantlepiece until it was knocked off by accident. My father did the, shall we say, repair job and painted over the top of the original glaze. I suspect it was my father who kindly wrote on the base the name of the pottery too. I've included that photo for those interested in the base shape.
More information about the Moses Exler & Son pottery can be found Gail Henry's book - New Zealand Pottery Commerical and Collectable. Pages 143-145. (1999 Edition)
