Re: ROYAL OAK POTTERY relationship with CROWN LYNN. 1948 - 1967
Thank you for taking the time to share this pottery history oakpot.
A pair of those 463 picture plates were listed on Trade Me recently and one was dated 1953 which corresponds to your date. However I was disappointed to not be able to find that shape in the Crown Lynn records and wonder if they re-used the shape number as 463 is a lidded cheese keep. Also the font makes me scratch my head ....
I have started to cross check your list of numbers above with the Crown Lynn records and there is no Crown Lynn record for Shape 222 and wonder if it is possible to share what that shape is please?
Many thanks Ev

Shape 463 is usually vitrified.
Oakpot, is your painted 463 also vitrified?

Jeremy, the plate has a soft body with a dull ring to it,there for it would be earthen ware.
Also number 222 was meant to read 322.

Re: ROYAL OAK POTTERY relationship with CROWN LYNN. 1948 - 1967
Thank you Oakpot.
This information is useful in another matter I am exploring, which is that in the early days Crown Lynn used the same moulds for some shapes for both vitrified and earthenware product.
It is certainly true for demitasse cups and likely for the 755 Carlton cup which is usually vit, but I do have an eartheware example. May be so for 715 tankard jugs and refrigerator jugs. I need more examples so this is helpful, if Ev concludes that this plate is the same shape 463 as the cheese dish in our gallery.
