Mine don't have the description on the underside.
I am wondering why mine don't have the story on the bottom. Is it perhaps that they were actually used in the Geyser Room restaurant as opposed to being a souvenir plate?

That's a good question minceandcheese and I hope that someone responds who has one without the words.

Re: The fabulous Maui plaque Shape 8012
A lady came to Te Toi Uku today and showed us her Maui Expo 70 plate and she pointed out a spelling mistake on the back of the plate.
It has the story of Maui and it says he was finally crushed by Nine-nui-te-pō the Goddess of the night.
There is no Nine-nui-te-pō in Maori mythology, but there is Hine-nui-te-pō who is referred to as the Goddess of the Night.
Shock Horror !! How embarrassing !!
Many of these plates have the Expo 70 stamp on them and no story of Maui and we wonder if this is the reason? Will we ever find out?
What does your plate have on the base?
