Vitrified plate with St George slaying the Dragon on it
This plate turned up at the Crown Lynn Roadshow yesterday and I had seen one before that was thought to be used at the St George Hotel in Wellington. Jonno was there and confirmed that there was such a place. The story goes that the Beatles stayed at this Hotel when they visited Wellington in the 1960's. I cannot find any reference to George or a Dragon in the Database, but hopefully we will find more info some day. This was made in 1973 and has a distinctive gold shadow over the pattern, plus 2166 written in gold on the base.
