Checked pattern is called Gingham !!
I am after more information AND PIECES of this pattern and Colours. (see picture on my profile) I have some yellow, blue, brown, maroon?red checked plates mainly but a couple of cups and 1 yellow jug, . I received a few pieces that my grandmother had in her beach house....brought late 1930's into 1940's????. Any info most welcome. The mark is a crown over a curved Crown Lynn with New Zealand under that. All the books I have seen have not displayed it nor I have seen it in the galleries......

Hi Harry,
Further to Ev's comments, did you take a look in the gallery on page two where we have backstamps and stickers? There is a backstamp as you describe which dates after 1955. Crown Lynn was known as Ambrico in the 40s so your plates must be later than you think..take a look and tell us what you think.

Re: Checked pattern is called Gingham !!
Here is a link to the auction on trademe Harry -
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=242430834&permanent=0
I have asked the seller what the backstamp is.
Though from the listing heading I guess it says Roydon
which is one of the brands that Crown Lynn used.

Yes, so much to learn - and your dinnerset is an easy one really as there are good records kept..wait till you get into eggcups, animal shapes and vases!!
We started the site because there was so much to learn, and we all learn from each other!

Got a response about the backstamp and pattern name from the Trademe auction -
"Hi, roydon table ware acid & detergent resistant colours, gingham pat no 406, I hope this helps"

Re: Checked pattern is called Gingham !!
Thank you Harry!
I would like to use one of your pics for the main site photo please - as they are stunning and unusual.
I will put them into the Tableware gallery even though we don't have a pattern name.
All of the photos that I use will be credited to you, as you own the copyright.
Harry - Manos who is auctioning the plates knows a lot about Crown Lynn - you could ask him what he knows about them.

Re: Checked pattern is called Gingham !!
Great to see those plates will be going to a good home!! The early 1940s crockery set was called "Paris". I guess these may have been one of the first patterned ones? The backstamp is abit of an enigma though...

Re: Checked pattern is called Gingham !!
Many thanks once again. I secured the last lot of yellows and hope to get these.....what an addiction these have become Last weekend at the Waipu Antiques fair my wife spotted a blue saucer. Quite exciting finding ONE item amongst all that was on sale. Also picked up a cup to match one of my existing saucers. Now I need a cabinet to display it all...and then a larger house to put the cabinet in!!!
