Good find. That is an early Mirek Smisek mug - maybe even about the time he was at Crown Lynn decorating Bohemia vases (or just after). The motif is one he liked and came back to a number of times throughout his career - hops vine leaves and flowers.

Yay.. I was hoping someone would say that!
...but I wasn't sure because it is slipcast...
Do you know if he made many slipcast pieces?
have you seen another mug like this?

Re: Scraffito Mug by Mirek Smisek
He is known to have been familiar with slip-cast molding from early on - he had a hand in that famous Matilda Jug during his sojourn in Aussie remember. I don't know the circumstances of this mug. I have seen a few others in the past. There were a couple of damaged ones on Trademe about 4 years ago I think. The pink tumbler in the following picture is from that Crown Lynn or thereabouts period (its not Bohemia though).

Re: Scraffito Mug by Mirek Smisek
There is an example of Mirek's Hop Leaf design on page 71 in his book 60 years 60 pots, though this was on a porcelain hand thrown mug from the 1970's. It is the same design as on this slipcast mug with leaves and flowers. I have seen these slipcast ones before on Trademe and didn't know what to make of them, so thank you T&C.
