This mug is an Orzel shape which has been used by someone unknown to make a promotional mug for Honda. It is clearly marked Orzel Made in New Zealand on the base, but Cam and Beverley Brown have told me it is definitely not their glaze or their Honda badge - though they confirmed it is their shape. Likewise Hemara Hemara told me that someone had added that badge when I showed it to him.
I bought it for (gulp) $20 from a hospice shop assuming it was Orzel. I still love it, but it does go to show that things are not always what they seem.
The '28' sticker is there to help me keep track of my collection.

Val, is the mug sturdy like it would be if it had been made by the Browns or is it more Hobby ceramics "flimsy"?

I am asking because just lately I have come across a lot of Orzel and Titian pieces in charity shops both table ware and vases that are 100% "flimsy" Hobby ceramics.

May be the mug has been made commercially for Honda by someone who used/copied the Browns mug shape or by someone who took part in hobby ceramics classes who was a big fan of Honda.

The biggest Hobby Ceramics business in Auckland was started by one of the Brown's sons and he seemed to have made moulds out of everything he could lay his hands on, especially Titian and Orzel. I also have been seeing a lot of Hobby Ceramics in local opshops lately.

I just remembered that I have a Hobby Ceramics Medium swan ..... dressed in a shiny clear glaze. It has a faint 2147 mark which has been tried to be removed I think. Stilt marks on the base. Pics here somewhere and I will try to link to them.

My 'Orzel' stein is heavy and high fired with a nice ring to it and a general air of quality - a tidy Honda emblem and a nice glaze. I am wondering if the Brown's son did a few on the side. It really does look like a promo product for Honda rather than a one-off hobby item.

That sounds very plausible.
