orzel sticker on a canister
Hi all. Found this canister recently, the glaze is too thick to make out the number on the bottom but I thought the sticker was interesting.

Titianware 1180?
Certainly looks like a Titianware rather than a typical Orzel canister.

Re: orzel sticker on a canister
Very interesting Thelma as it looks just like an 1180 Crown Lynn jar that I have. Could you please add a photo of the base? Thanks. Ev

Re: orzel sticker on a canister
Thanks Thelma, I will bring mine in from the studio to compare as it has Titianware and 1180 and I want to see if it's in the same places as the bumps on your one.

Orzel do make these.. I bought these for gift, in white in 3 sizes with yellow roses from the Drury shop in the late 1980's, my motherinlaw had them for years.

I'm struck by the similarities in the rings on the base of both of these jars

Re: orzel sticker on a canister
I am thinking that when the Browns left Titian after the Crown Lynn takeover, they took this shape with them and at some stage reproduced it as Orzel. Funny that we have only ever found this solitary one with an Orzel sticker though.

Re: orzel sticker on a canister
That makes sense...this syle of cannister was very popular back then, it was probably one of their best sellers me thinks.

Re: orzel sticker on a canister
Hi all, I have looked at the base of the canister in all sorts of light and the base does correspond with the bumps on the Titian one, I can just see where the Made In New Zealand was, plus the number, but there are no bumps where Titian would be. (Perhaps a slight hollow.) The glaze is very thick and not nearly as well finished as the other canister. My one has pin holes and the base is roughly finished. Keep warm everybody!
