As I was checking my pictures I realised the mark looked familiar. And yes, this face cup has what seems to be the same Pen mark. I then used our friend Google to find out more about Penny's work, but didn't see anything about cups.
What I did find, was an email address. I contacted her, with pictures of the cup, asking if it could be her work. She answered:
"Sure is one of my mugs from over 30 years ago.
I am always amazed at what turns up in Op shops.
Regards Penny"
So we have a confirmation. It is still looking good after more than 30 years:
