Seakins (Pacific) mark for gallery
Hemara and Frances Hemara showed me a plate made by Charlie and Chrissie Seakins. Since then I have found a few pieces of my own. They have/had? a plate making machine and the ware is hand decorated by Chrissie and sold under the Pacific brand. They are based in Northcote on the North Shore, Auckland. I believe Charlie was a hand thrower before they started making tableware. This cup is 9 cm high, plate/saucer 20 cm wide and the platter is huge at 20 cm wide. The plate that came with the cup has no indent; there were several sets and they were all the same so I am wondering if they didn't make saucers as such.

Another Seakins
I assume this mug is Charlie Seakins as well. I have also seen a lovely lidded jar with the same mark, but managed not to buy it! Photos Jake Monk

Pacific NZ mug (Painted Pacific, Seakins)
Pacific NZ mug.
This Pacific NZ mug shape is not in the current Seakins catalogue, but the pattern is. The background for this "Pohutukawa" design includes "black sand from ... Muriwai ... suspended in [the] glaze."
http://www.paintedpacificpottery.co.nz/mugs
CORRECTION: while it is not on the mugs page this "tall mug" can be seen on the Pohutukawa page: http://www.paintedpacificpottery.co.nz/pohutukawa
The most expensive mug at Sallies at $4 but I paid anyway. Like my Keriblue Pohutukawa mug this is effectively a new item so it was cheap at the price.
In the potters marks gallery there is a Painted Pacific mark under Seakins but I don't see Val's Pacific NZ mark anywhere.

Re: Seakins (Pacific) mark for gallery
I met Charlie and Chrissie last week. I had a wonderful wander through their workshop and gallery. These floral 'Painted Pacific' dishes were made around the mid-1990s.
The Kea mug is from their current stock.
This beautiful ware is made on a jigger by Charlie and hand-decorated by Chrissie. They have been making ceramics all their adult lives. Charlie began hand-throwing when he was 14, but he and Chrissie moved to jiggering and hand-painting when they had a family to support.
I really love their bird mugs. They are finely made and a nice large size. I might even buy a set for Christmas!

Lovely stuff !!
I'm sure Charlie said that he got some of his equipment for plate making from Crown Lynn when they closed down. Perhaps the jigger as well .....

Re: Seakins (Pacific) mark for gallery
Charlie told me that he made his first jigger from an accumulation of pieces of machinery. The one he uses now is also mainly built by him, but using newer and better components. I took a video of him jiggering, I will put a link here when I have put it on youtube. (which may require the help of my 12-year-old granddaughter.)
