The lamp base has a gold sticker on the base that says Made In NZ and the rest I can't make out.
Has someone seen this sticker before?

The lamp base is of very good quality, the brass lamp fitting and the plug look old and original.

We are looking for a few Crown Lynn lamp bases, but none of them are this shape.

There will probably be more, but we don't know about them.

The lamp fitting is not so old. It has an external earthwire screw.
I don't know when they appeared unfortunately.
Most CL lamps seem to have plastic lamp holders.

I just noticed the sticker on a lamp, like the one above just in a peachy colour, which I have had for a couple of years. And the stickers says: Made In NZ Halls Ind. Auckland.

Did Halls Ind. purchase lamp bases from NZ potters or did they manufacture them themselves?

This is interesting and I think we should open a topic for Hall's Industries as a small Auckland commercial manufacture of ceramics, such as Beeches and Stewart et al.

One of New Zealand's successful craft potters, Aaron Scythe, has a reference in his CV to serving an apprenticeship (aged 15!!) as a slip caster at Halls Industries in 1986, which gives us a good date to go on for your lamp, and another pair that we have here. You can be forgiven for not knowing Aaron Scythe because he is an established potter in Japan not New Zealand, only returning here with his family after the Fukushima Nuclear disaster. He is represented by Form Gallery and Avid though, which suggests he is well established here too now. See:

Should I photograph our lamps? They are quite big.

Splendid information T&C and I will open a Halls Industries topic.
Please add photos of your lamp bases as the shapes will be important for identification.
I'm very aware of Aaron Scythe and his appealing free flowing work that is storming our country.
So many of our Studio Potters have connections with the Commercial Pottery industry.

Thank you for the info teaandcoffee. Even if the lamp wasn't made by Aaron Scythe I still think it of very good quality and someone did a very good job.

I'll get hubby to photograph both together including the bases soon.

Pink Halls Industries lamp base. Empty Another Halls lamp base. Sticker for gallery

Post  Maryr Mon 14 Sep - 15:48

Yay I finally found a lamp base with a sticker. Height 21 cm. I think there  might be a lot of these lamp bases around - as yet unidentified.  This has a particular way of joining the electrics to the ceramic base via a length of pipe.  This first lamp base has a very clear Halls sticker, but there was an identical one in the same shop with no sticker.  Sadly stickers fall off. Both had the same distinctive square shade with a flexible arm inside allowing you to change the angle of the shade... if that makes sense.

Here is another lamp base I found shortly afterwards. Height 14 cm.  Almost certain it is Hall's as well, but the felt had been taken off the base and there was of course no means of identifying it.  Both have the same length of pipe holidng on the electric fitting, and both these lamp bases have a slightly uneven glaze as though it has been sprayed on too thick.

To show a couple of other Hall lamp shapes have a look at these Trade Me auctions.

The blue are Halls lamps. There were also two the same in white listed by a different seller.

And a chinoiserie Halls lamp.

Teaandcoffee and Haselnuss, Thank you for that detective work! Two more Halls shapes. I am so happy to see that there are more around. I just wish makers stamped things instead of applying stickers. I wonder if the Chinoiserie decoration was added by the lamp owner or by the maker/seller? Beach Artware told me that they sold just the ceramic part to a chain store, and the chain store added the fittings including the shade.
Teaandcoffee - do you have pics of your lamps? Forgive me if you have put them on the site and they have dropped off...

This is interesting... another range of NZ made ceramics.
