Is this Waka Titian made?
This Waka has been listed on Trade Me as Titian and has a Titian mark on the base but with Aotearoa on the bottom front.
Isn't the use of the word Aotearoa on art work a pretty recent thing?
All other original Titian waka on Google/Catalogues including mine have Maori War Canoe on the bottom front and Peters mentioned a pure white one.
The colours of the glaze and the way Aotearoa is written doesn't look right to me either.
Are there any Hobby Ceramic pieces about with the Titian mark on the base like the ones with the C/L numbers?
This Waka just doesn't look right.

It reminds a bit of the Waka by Ange but I don't know what her base looks like.

Re: Is this Waka Titian made?
There seem to be a few of these around that have used a Titian Waka mould and it's going to be hard to determine who made them without makers marks. Ange was offended when I asked if she marked the waka that she made and replied saying that the auction said who made it.
I can see where the glaze has run and stuck to the kiln shelf on the base and another piece of the waka has lifted off and it would have left a lump on the shelf. The white water isn't something that I've seen on these waka before. I have a waka that was made by Hemara that he gave me and he has signed it. He has the Titian Waka mould. We may never find the complete story for these stray waka .....
