Lots of Crown Lynn little animals on this page of the Modellers Shapes book !!
The little Kiwi on the bottom right looks like one that TonyK posted somewhere!
What are your thoughts??
I took around 500 photos yesterday of Crown Lynn shapes and I'm really keen to sort them as I see many shapes that we don't have photos/drawings of and it is very exciting to say the least. But first I have to finish reloading those damn Galleries that vanished! I couldn't resist this page though ....

I saw it in the hands of an ex Crown Lynn modeller at Val Monk's book launch last year. Heather doesn't know about these yet. She will be interested in the little kiwi though. There is only one item numbered on that page .... the 2157 Spoon Rest.

Yes the little frog was modelled by the same modeller as the moneybox frog and the goodnight kiwi moneybox - Bruce Yallop.
Here is Tony's Kiwi photo [Thanks Tony] and I wonder if he can tell us how big it is? I've seen this fellow on Trademe heaps of times listed as Crown Lynn, but with no records they have been ignored.
The little fellow from the Crown Lynn Book ...
Thoughts please.

Shape 2151 from 1983 are my thoughts .... as all of those shapes around it confirm the time frame ... still pondering ....
Re: Lots of Crown Lynn little animals on this page of the Modellers Shapes book !!
Here are my two kiwi. They look just like Tony's, but the colourways are slightly different
the other side
What worries me, is that there is no base. All of the animals I have, have a base, so if they are Crown Lynn, why did they not make them with a base on it? These measure approx 80mm high, 95mm long & 40mm wide.

How high are your ones Sunny?
Yours doesn't quite match the drawing I feel .... ?
I picked up one of those kiwi ornaments like yours at the Retro Fair and it was way to light for size to be Crown Lynn I thought.

They are 80mm high (3 inches) Ev. They do feel light, but then so does the 165 compared to the 156, and of course they have no base. I think they are the same as Tony's one, does his have a base do you know? I also noticed that both his and mine have a back toe, but the modellers drawing doesn't.

Didn't Tony's have a base that had PSA on it?
I noticed that the land almost goes up to the neck on the drawing ....?

Yes I think that is a Crown Lynn one Janice.
Re: Lots of Crown Lynn little animals on this page of the Modellers Shapes book !!
There's a thread called Shanx's Kiwi with photos of my two kiwis as well as the Studio Ceramics one which looks a lot more like the drawing. Val has posted very clear photos of the probably Japanese one too. The Studio Ceramics one doesn't have rear toes and the left leg is back rather than the right.

You know, I reckon Shanx's one is more likely the real thing.

Re: Lots of Crown Lynn little animals on this page of the Modellers Shapes book !!
A question please... How likely is it that these were all actually made, and is it possible that prototypes were modelled, and it was then decided not to add some of them to the range? If so, I assume the prototype would not be numbered? It just seems strange to me that we have not come across any of these items, and how would we recognise them if we found one?

Re: Lots of Crown Lynn little animals on this page of the Modellers Shapes book !!
Can't really answer that question with any confidence Sunny, but as these drawings are in the Crown Lynn Modellers book I would say that they were made at one time. Perhaps only small runs? I heard from Mark Cleverley that all trials were made in runs of 100 or so of patterns and shapes. Crown Lynn were still modelling new shapes right up until it closed and if these last shapes made it through the kilns I don't know. There is a whole dinner set in the modellers drawings that I have never seen before, but as this was their last design, it may not have got past the trial stage.
Some shapes were made specifically for an order and so these would have had limited production.
I wouldn't discount them just because we haven't seen them, as we are finding shapes we haven't seen before on a regular basis. Our record resources only go up to 1984, so hopefully the Portage Trust will have some records from after this time as Richard Quinn was there in 1989 rescuing all he could. I can't wait for the Portage Trust to release it's resources!

I haven't seen any snakes in the Modellers sketches Cherry17.
May I ask why you think your snake was made by Crown Lynn?
Does it have any numbers or stamps on it?
Very interesting however

It's been scratch off ,I can see either the letter L or number 1 also number 8 but that's all. The design is classic crown lynn eyes look like the peacock eyes, color that creamy white. Tried to send pic but somehow didnt go through . Try again
