Pauline Abbott Tui stoneware sculpture - any idea of value? Empty Pauline Abbott Tui stoneware sculpture - any idea of value?

Post  missrach Sun 13 Jul - 19:23

Hi. I am new to this forum, apologies in advance if I have done something wrong, (one thing I was unsure about is where I should be posting this topic).

We are moving overseas and I have been trying to identify and sell most of the bits and pieces that my Grandma purchased over the years (in NZ and overseas).

I have this Tui stoneware sculpture made by Pauline Abbott (100% certain - I have the label that went with it). The only thing wrong with it is that there is a small piece of the sculpture (not the birds) that has broken off at the top.

I am wondering how much we might get for it if we tried to sell it. Would anyone happen to know?

Thanks in advance (ps thanks kat-a-lat for the photo uploading help!)

I can't give you any information on price but perhaps some history can help.  I purchased a Pauline Abbott Tui on a branch approximately 10 cms long and 7 high.   This was bought in the early 1990s from the Martinborough Fair and she was suffering the effects of MS so this was near the end of her career.  Her daughter was also a potter, although the work was different.

As far as I am concerned, my Pauline Abbott piece is priceless... or at least it was until 3 weeks ago when my husband managed to smash it.  Currently I'm trying to find a repairer.  Preferably in the Japanese style (a) to add to the history, and (b) make my husband pay for daring to even touch it.

I'm pretty sure my mother had a double tui one similar to yours (also with a chip from the top which is probably the most delicate part).

Pauline Abbott was my aunt and married to John Hawkshaw Abbott, who was brother to my father Eugene Robert Abbott.
