Re: Castle Pottery Mug
Very interesting Kat !
It looks slipcast, but the Peter Sinclair words appear to be written on by hand while the clay is still damp. They may have added other celebrity names like that.
I will add the backstamp to the Backstamps Gallery.
Thank you for yet another collectable item!

Re: Castle Pottery Mug
Found another Castle Pottery mug on my files from a TM auction.
Same shape, but has the words Palace Hotel Rotorua NZ and a Tiki decoration.

A Castle Pottery AEG Power Tools mug
AEG power tools are sold by Techtronic Industries in Auckland, and AEG is a German brand as far as I can make out, which started some 120 years ago.

I thought it looked like Castle then after checking on the forum I bigged up the photo of the base to see "Castle Pottery" almost scraped away. (A different mark.)

I think I have seen one of these on the site already, but can't find it. Thanks Jeremy, my pictures went weird for some reason.

Re: Castle Pottery Mug
These add to the Castle Pottery history as so far we have only had reference to CP in Silverdale, now we have backstamps with Coromandel.

Castle vs Hand Putaruru
From the nature of their respective wares it looks as though Castle Pottery could have been competing with Putaruru Hand Ceramics. It would be interesting to see what years each company was producing advertising mugs for the Thames-Waikato district. I cannot offhand think of any other part of the country for which such a vast quantity of advertising slipware was produced.
