Hello Kat, I was wondering if the above brown J3 jug was made by Titian. The leather glaze black jug picture is an example that they used a J plus number as a base mark for jugs.

Hello Kat, I think the glaze does look like a Titian or Aquila glaze. I'll get hubby to take some photos later.
It is the tiny black dots in the glaze and the different shades of brown that remind me of Titian/Aquila glaze.
Here are two vases that Hemara Hemara has that would have been made at the Orzel/Aquila factory.

The glaze also reminds me of the Stonehenge glaze.
And the glaze of this Titian cup too.
Just to boggle your minds here is the all so talked about Crown Lynn float bowl.

I've added this jug to the Titian Gallery, but the number looks out of place amongst the 3 digit jugs ....? What are your thoughts?

Re: Is This J3 Made In NZ Electic kettle Jug Titian?
Yes, It does look out of place.
It is the glaze, the shape and weight of the jug that made me think Brown family. I also read that they made electric jugs in vitrified porcelain for Ultimate Echo. I researched them but haven't found out much.
In the Orzel period they also used more individualised backstamps.
Has anyone seen any other NZ potteries use this glaze who manufactured for company's selling electric jugs?
When did the selling of pottery electric jugs of this kind stop on NZ? This might help to get a timeframe it could have been made in.

Re: Is This J3 Made In NZ Electic kettle Jug Titian?
I had a look at those too and it is a shame that we can't see the handles. They do look similar.
I had a search on google and some Fowler jugs have the 550 on the base but I haven't found out yet what the number means.

Was it Fowlers who owned McSkimmings for a while?
Keith Sandford of McSkimmings (and Teal) referred to Australian owners.
That could account for the made in NZ.

Pics of the J3 jug and two similar looking ones.
The other brown jug has the same mark as the Temuka Speedie jug posted by Maryr.

Re: Is This J3 Made In NZ Electic kettle Jug Titian?
As we are not sure who made these electric jugs I will move this topic into the Identification section to wait for more info.
Benhar
This jug for sale at Whangarei Hospice shop should help solve this puzzle.
I expect that this one will have been made in Australia.
marked "Jug Body by Fowler Ware". Lots of other info too
In NZ Fowler Ware was made at Benhar at the McSkimmings factory.
I know of no other location.
I believe the other kettle, white with green lid, was made for an Australian homewares or electrical wares chain. I knew but I forgot. I have similar with orange lid somewhere. Two sizes in that shape.

Re: Is This J3 Made In NZ Electic kettle Jug Titian?
Just got confirmation from the Electric Jug site that my post asking for confirmation was approved and it has been seen by 5 members atm.
So we wait ...... for a reply. It usually takes a while over there, but there is always someone who responds eventually.
