Kitchenware marked Clay Craft: Hobby Ceramics

I showed a picture of these to Linda at Hikurangi on Friday,
and while she recognised the shapes as Clay Craft the hand-painting threw her.
Obviously not standard practice at Clay Craft. I'm pretty sure the '94 date on the bottom of the teapot is post-Clay-Craft so I'm guessing a later use of Clay Craft moulds (as we have seen twice elsewhere) or maybe the colouring was added later to surviving bisques. The writing is underglaze.
I understand Hobby Ceramics preceded these by a decade but the light weight of these relative to other Clay Craft, and the glazed base on the teapot is so like Hobby Ceramics.

My purchase included four canisters and three lids.

I would say that these are definitely Hobby Ceramic pieces, where the bisqued blank is sold and then painted glazed and fired by the hobby ceramist.  The weight is the easiest way to tell as they used a different lightweight slip.  Perhaps someone used the Clay Craft moulds when they closed down?  Nice art work I think. Also everything made in these classes had to have the persons name marked on the base and usually the year too. Which is another tell tale sign.

I thought the painting was pretty good too.
I was talking with Val yesterday about Hobby Ceramics.
There appears to be a lot of it in the op-shops but very little written about it.
I see it started in the late 1970s, so if it was still going in the mid-90s that would certainly explain the quantity.

Do you think the flamingos below are also Hobby?
That was Val's guess, sight unseen.
They are half the size of the Aquilas at 27cm (taller one), not identical but the same modeller. Very light, incised "KM" but no date. Very nice glaze.

I would agree with Val on this as I've never seen Aquila Flamingos in plain colours. Heh it is a very apt colour I guess
I wanted to share that Hobby Ceramics were still going strong in the late 1990's.
