These little fellows are really cute, and although they have no numbers, deserve to be in a gallery, so I will add them to the Shapes with no numbers gallery, which we have started again now that we have space to have one again. Here is the shortcut http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/gallery/Crown-Lynn-Shapes-with-No-Numbers/Crown-Lynn-Shapes-with-No-Numbers-cat_c57.htm

Does any one know the history of the Kiwi money boxes? They seem to not even exist much? They seem to have been made in short supply or not able to get your pennies back without breaking it? Was it a promo thing? Anyone? I see a listing Ebay UK for a lot of money. The NZ Museum only has the Kiwi. Thank you as always. Kind regards!

Also what is the Kiwi clutching? It looks more like a box or what not. Not something that is for money? Or am I just over curious! Laughing

Hi there, we don't know a lot about these adorable money boxes, other than that they were made in the 1980's. Unfortunately there are very few records from 1984 to 1989 which will be when they were made.
I have come across some of the artwork from these, but that's all.
Yes it appears that one has to smash the moneybox to get the money out, which is very odd!
Not sure about the box with the slot in it sorry. The designer will know, but we don't know who the designer was at this stage.
