Ross Richards of Thackwood Pottery.
Neat bowl with a pattern around the outside, black swirl inside, and reddish/brown shiny glaze
The mark is like a bow, and Kelly Blackburn was the only one I could find that was close

Re: Ross Richards of Thackwood Pottery.
Thank you so much Cat as now that mark makes sense to me. Great work!!!!
Re: Ross Richards of Thackwood Pottery.
No problem, I was just looking at pottery listings and thought I'd seen that mark before.

Ross Richards little bowl
Gosh this little bowl is just super!!
It didn't take me long to find out who the Richards on the base belonged to!
Ross Richards from Nelson, so another mark of his to add to the Gallery

I found the bow mark again
Just had to have this, whatever it is. Gloriously glazed
It has the bow mark again too. It's kind of a pot-bellied mug, but quite large.

Re: Ross Richards of Thackwood Pottery.
You know this bow niggles me, as it only has 2 lines going downward, and the mark in the book has three, being the centre of the 2 R's.

Re: Ross Richards of Thackwood Pottery.
That's what made me think, the bow only has 2 legs not 3 like the mark

Ross Richards' Pot
Hi ... what a gorgeous, typical-Ross-Richards'-shape pot ... round, dumpy, "judder" pattern at the base, small, finger-hole ring at the top, lovely rounded rim.. lovely glaze .. R R personified!! Back-to-back R's for the signature. Jealous that you found this one!!

Do you still want photos??
Hi .. A friend of mine gave me one of Ross R's most recent pieces for my 70th .. it's beautiful .. shallow dish on a pedestal. Sad to think there won't be any more of his work.......
A long time ago, when we were discussing June Reay's work, you asked me for some photos of her pots.......... do you still want them? I can email them to your home but don't trust myself to wade through the rigmarole to post them on the potter's forum! I have quite a collection and would be happy to do some "group" shots.. Hope the email address I have for you is current ... something to do with a plumber?? Cheers....

Re: Ross Richards of Thackwood Pottery.
That is sad, another one gone to potter's heaven! I think I was quite lucky to have found this now...
Fabulous teapot - the lid looks like it doesn't match, but the collar and handle tonings re the same colour
Full signature too - RIP Ross

Is this Ross Richards?
Moksha has asked me to post his photos with some questions.
The NZ Potters site has a three-legged double-R mark for Ross Richards as shown above in a previous post. This varies from the two-legged double-R scissor or bow mark that has appeared here. This discrepancy has already given cause for comment.
Moksha's pot has a three-legged mark as seen on the NZ Potters site.
Can anyone tell us if Ross did use a three-legged mark?
Is this pot Ross Richards' work?

Ross Richards mark - base of the dark-glazed bottle from mumof1
Hi .. given that Ross's signature is hand-marked, I would say, from my own experience, that this "lack of third leg" is just one of those things that happen when making a mark on the base of a pot. Everything about mumof1's pot says 'RR" and would confirm that his mark, as has been discussed and photographed earlier, would clearly have 3 "legs".
With the red/copper-glazed bottle that I saw [on another pottery site?] there is nothing about it which says that Ross was the maker. I have two lovely pieces which, although not marked, are definitely his work. My apologies if this isn't the correct forum - search as I may, I couldn't find the red bottle!! Cheers

Re: Ross Richards of Thackwood Pottery.
Just would like to note that we were sent the mark of Kelly Blackburn and it has three 'legs'. Trying to get confirmation of her mark now, as it's so similar to Ross's mark!
