Colour glaze cups or not? Empty Colour glaze cups or not?

Post  Anne30 Sat 7 Sep - 17:51

Ok over the last few months while hunting for saucers to go with my cups I  inherited from my grandmother.... I have come across some cups in colours that I have do not have .  Some are coffee can shaped and some are tulips shaped but the Grey one is neither so I am not sure whether it is a colour glaze cup.

If so does this mean I now own  Mustard, Grey Tan, Orange and Mocha  colour glaze cups? Or do the coffee cans cups not count as colour glaze?

Hi Anne30, you don't have any coffee cans in that lot.
This link will let you see what they look like - http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t1122p15-crown-lynn-cook-serve-coffee-cans
What you do have are 3 Shape 25 cups, a large tulip and a commercial stacking cup.
There are a few theories around regarding what can be called Colour Glaze and these include crockery that are stamped as such.
This auction shows coffee cans that are stamped Colour Glaze -

Here is some Forma shaped Colour Glaze -
http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t3320-forma-colour-glaze
Personally, my theory is that all of the solid one colour ware is the same as Colour Glaze ....

Thanks for the clarification. I am still curious about the names of the colours of the cups. Do you think I have attributed the right names to the colours or not.

Hmmm not really as you will find the Crown Lynn colour names for many of the colours in this link - just scroll down ..

This is an excellent topic about Colour Glaze and it has more colour names
http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t876-colour-glaze-by-crown-lynn

Now all we need is to match the colours with the names affraid

Colour glaze cups or not? Empty Oyster?

Post  Jeremy Ashford Mon 9 Sep - 12:36

I'm certainly no expert on colour glaze but..

In the mass picture of coffee cans

http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t1122-crown-lynn-cook-serve-coffee-cans

at the back right, sitting between the lime green and and mustard yellow is the colour I have referred to as oyster.
Yellowy-biege, green in some lights.

Is that the one?

thanks Jeremy very helpful.

Maybe this thread needs to be moved or deleted since they cups are not the right shape for this forum? I quite like the cook and serve cups especially some of the patterned ones they are seriously cool. Thanks for answering my questions. I appreciate it.

Good grief Anne30, this thread fits perfectly into the Colour Glaze topic and I wouldn't dream of deleting it. There is a listing for 3 fabulous Coffee Can sets on TM at the moment in Colour Glaze, check them out -

Post  Dale Ritter Thu 29 Oct - 17:27

Just going thru some old postings so some musings.

Ev, technically they are all colour glaze but we usually reserved that term for a range of items offered as open stock verus items such as cups, cream & sugar, salt and pepper that had a colour to accent the decorated plates. The ranges had different "names" depending on the retail channel.

The colour called Oyster could be Taupe which was used with Yucatan.

In the Bankers thread quite a few items are vitrified items which were different glazes to the earthenware.
