Re: 797 Mini Potty
The other potty http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t1559-shape-797-mini-chamber-pot?highlight=mini+potty has a slightly different "filled in" handle. It must be older.
I have two with the transfers and one without that don't have the "filled in" handle.
Two are without any markings underneath and the one above has the Made in New Zealand.

Re: Mini Potty was not made by Crown Lynn, so who made them?
Ok I'm 99% convinced that this is the 797, as the shape is definitely not the little one without the hole in the handle and there don't appear to be any others. I will put a link to this topic in the Quick Reply under the photo.
Re: Mini Potty was not made by Crown Lynn, so who made them?
The other one we know of is in a pic in Val Monks CL book where someone is drinking out of a full size Po with same print, must be 797 me thinks.

Re: Mini Potty was not made by Crown Lynn, so who made them?
That photo looks like a decent sized Po .... and the large ones were personalised for people who were leaving or retiring from the company... the Crown Lynn records say:
797 - Chamber Ashtray
So I think it should be on the smallish side, don't you?

This is another little old po, with a different and strange saying "Stand not upon the order of your going, but go at once"
Almost indecipherable stamp

Ohhhhhh I think that must be rather rare as I've never seen the saying before
Lastly I want to know if it is a Salesman sample ....... please?

Re: Mini Potty was not made by Crown Lynn, so who made them?
I think so, I have lined these ones I have up & I think this older middle CL one could be a salesmans sample.
797 is much smaller & described as an Ashtray on the database..which makes me think pottys were in decine & Ashtray was a better description for the times..
I have pictured it with a 1930's Timaru Potteries salesmans sample & it is the same size as the old backstamped potty...

The smaller white is 2.25"incl. handle.
The larger brown 2.25" rim diameter.

Re: Mini Potty was not made by Crown Lynn, so who made them?
I only considered height, but it doesn't say ......
going by other measurements I would say it's definitely the height measurement, as width has a w after the measurement.

Re: Mini Potty was not made by Crown Lynn, so who made them?
Oh No alright !!!!! Are you saying the eye one is one and a half inches high? Kat?
Which would make none of them correct I don't know of any others

1 1/4" high its tiny the measurement must refer to the Width.

Re: Mini Potty was not made by Crown Lynn, so who made them?
Today I found one of these little potties........
How can it be Crown Lynn?
The transfers have not been fired on, but seem to be attached some other way ... glued on perhaps?
The clay doesn't look like Crown Lynn to me.
There is no footring, it has a flat base.
It doesn't have the quality of Crown Lynn.
Gosh it's tiny isn't it and it wouldn't even hold many ashes would it?

Re: Mini Potty was not made by Crown Lynn, so who made them?
Skipping back to the 797 dimension of 2 1/4 inches, that would be way too high for a potty-ashtray I think, but also, I have collected quite a few of these for my friend Joss, both the wee ones and the closed handle ones and have noticed that within each different shape there is quite a bit of size variation.
If the definition as in the gallery is from a document then I guess it is correct but I just thought the possibility of a number reuse could also be considered.
I had an idea I had seen a wee one with a 48-55 mark but it may just have been the made in New Zealand mark remembered badly.

"Australian Made" novelty potty.
Similar "Use me well..." potty to haselnuss' one above but not identical.
Thinner slip. Smaller o/s decal. Maybe different colour.
The body of this one is very white and the clear glaze is quite bubbly.

There are lots of little potties with the eye and variations on this rhyme, but I have not found a match for these two. They look like they are derived from the same original.

Re: Mini Potty was not made by Crown Lynn, so who made them?
Whoever made this little potty also made the String Mouse as the Made In New Zealand stamp is the same on both.
The clay used on this little potty is wrong for Crown Lynn.
It doesn't 'feel' like Crown Lynn.
The weight for size does not compute.
