This was a message from a friend and I'm wondering if any of you have any idea what pottery this might be?

"I just saw some beautiful pottery, made in New Zealand (marked on the bottom) and after much debate with myself, I left it at the store. It was cups and bowls, brown outside, sort of a dull chartreuse inside and very nicely shaped. I left it partly because I thought it might be hard to research and I was right- I can't find anything on google images that looks like it. Might you have a clue for me? It was commercially produced, as opposed to hand made art pottery, and the stamp said NEW ZEALAND all in capital letters."

Thanks all in advance!! Smile Very Happy

Danae (p.s. hello everyone! I'm new round here)

Hi Danae and welcome! "MADE IN NEW ZEALAND" all in caps like that, generally means it's Crown Lynn, who had a vast range of patterns and colour combinations. Have you checked out the gallery, http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/gallery/index.htm - have a look in the 'Crown Lynn Tableware Patterns' section (which is not a complete record of patterns, just what this site's members have amassed so far). Someone with more knowledge than I may be able to tell you what it is just from the description, I am a bit of a novice myself! Smile

Did the base look anything like this?

If so it's definitely Crown Lynn.
I can't be any more specific than that without photos sorry.

Hi Danae. Just wondering what country your friend found this ware in? I get the feeling it was not NZ. Crown Lynn did export quite extensively, esp in the 1960s and 1970s.
