The Mirek Smisek's mark on the coffee mug is just one of his marks ..

Friends of mine bought this piece earlier this week
Mirek Smisek 002cro10

It's a Gateway into the world bowl like the one in the 60 Years 60 Pots exhibition

That's lovely Tony!
Is it made from porcelain clay?

I don't know enough about clay to be able to tell you. The description says Gateway into the world, Bowl, Waikanae, 2009, Snowglaze, 85 x 175

The small unglazed parts of the base are white. Because of the way the glaze ended up Mirek sold it as a second but to my untrained eye it looked interesting. The pinkish tone is from a nearby cushion.

Here's an article about Mirek's kilns being relocated:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12025685

when I saw them they had long been decommissioned as the build up of salt inside had choked them. There was a third kiln still in use by John Wineera up to some weeks before I visited.
