Can't find a more interesting auction than these two !!!!

These auctions beg for so many questions!!
Why would Crown Lynn send unglazed ware to Invercargill ??
Who are H & J Smith - the recipient?
What is the pattern which is on both of the contents of the crates of wares?
I checked the Database and D620 is Green Bamboo ... ... ....
There is a 1202 Advice Number ..... but alas it is blank and has no information !!!!
Does anyone have any ideas?

I noticed these auctions too. My thoughts were that the recpient was hand painting the fruit before glazing. These are the sorts of T Me items that should go to a CL Museum.

H & J Smith are a long standing Invercargill based department store with branches in other towns around Southland. They collaborated with Arthur Barnett of Dunedin an even older merchant and retailer and I am fairly sure they were part of he United Stores Group that we discussed on this forum a month or so back.
The boxes are made from heavier gauge timber than apple boxes , in my memory.
I see the seller is in Dunedin not Invercargill???

You are such a gem Jonno
The lid on the second auction definitely says Unglazed China, I wonder if there was a market for this type of ware. Perhaps blanks for Hobby Ceramics or for potters even .... ?

Glad to be be to help Ev, I have asked the seller if there are any clues as to the date
of the shipment from CL to H & J's.
Does the design ring any bells for you?
