Where have I seen A over W before? Not NZ pottery, it's Malaysian.
Today I saw a pottery lamp base with a mark on it that was a capital A over a W. I'm sure I've seen this mark before. I've searched the site and NZ Potters site to no avail.

OK. It's annoying me so much I bought it. ($1)
It's actually a bottle, no hole in the base.
It is pretty awful, made in 4 vertical parts.
It's the A W that intrigues me.
It's probably not NZ.
Any clues appreciated!

I don't believe the person who made that lovely salt glazed mug could have made this bottle!!!

Thanks to yowie at the Australian potters marks site, this unusual bottle has been identified as made in Malaysia at AW Pottery Johor.

This pottery was founded by Aw Eng Kuang around 52 years ago.
Google images show the mark is a match.
Not sure where to put this now ..... ?
But can't leave the mark in the NZ Potters Marks Gallery ~_~

Now that is a really super piece of sleuthing, by the way Johor is the Malay state just above Singapore at the bottom of the peninsular and is accessable my road over the Merdeka (Freedom) Bridge , the capital is called Johore Bahru.

Hi yowie
I know who made the salt glazed mug with AW on it ..... Al Wheldale and I bought it from him so there is no question about who made it
