Re: DB Ltd Cup and Plate
Very interesting Jonno, as that cup looks quite old with the gold lustre on the rim. I have noticed that there are DB Hotels in the Decoration Advices and will take a look when I get some time.
Re: DB Ltd Cup and Plate
I found four listings in the Database for Dominion Breweries :
Dom Breweries 509 Gib Pat Special
Dom Breweries 517 [Ashtray 1045]
Dom Breweries 799 Gib Pat Special
Dom Breweries 972 Exclusive Onglaze monogram on Teal Glaze
The 972 is from the early 1960's, the rest follow on from there.
Can't tell which one yours is Jonno, do you have any good ideas ?

Re: DB Ltd Cup and Plate
Thanks for those details and dates Ev, No flash ideas but it is interesting that GibPat were involved and that 1960 is about the time that major upgrades were taking place according to my history notes on DBLtd.
I note that only other thing that I forgot to mention was that the cup is unusually backstamped in green as Crown Lynn Vitrified but the plate is not and neither have any reference to GibPat who in the main only sold Vitrified to their commercial clients. Monk P. 94 states they were bought by CL in 1968
Ah!, Sweet Mystery of ........

Re: DB Ltd Cup and Plate
That cup is fascinating .... absolutely!
Also that logo .... I'm going to have to do some research to see how many different DB logos there are now. It's possible that Kat & Co's tall teapot has the same logo on it ... or similar.

Re: DB Ltd Cup and Plate
Wow !! now isn't that amazing and exciting. Find a lonely little cup a few days ago match it up with a plate that I have for some time and within days of posting up pops a Coffee Pot or Teapot with the same logo and both pieces in shapes that are new to the gallery.
This is not the first time I have experienced this sort of coincidence and it is what makes collecting Crown Lynn so very interesting and exciting. Also interesting how ones eyes get attuned to shapes and designs even if quite small as this one was.
Thanks Kat & Ev you have made my Anniversary Day.

I have some DB Plates too!! - Dinner/Lunch Size
These measure approx. 25.5 cms. wide and have the same logo as the cup and oval plate shown. These all have a double backstamp for some reason.
Can anyone give me any idea of what - if anything - they might be worth, and the reason for the two backstamps please
Please feel free to use these for the gallery if required and of any help Ev.

Re: DB Ltd Cup and Plate
Nice to see you again hazlette
No idea why the plates have two stamps
The 74 shows that they were made in 1974, so we have found out.
No idea as to value. Some monogrammed wares seem to be very popular .... ?
Here is the expired listings for DB on Trademe, though none have sold they may give you some ideas ....? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchResults.aspx?from=advanced&advanced=true&searchstring=DB¤t=0&cid=7500&rptpath=0340-2609-&sort_order=default&searchregion=100

DB plates
Many thanks Ev. Really appreciated. I do at least know now that these are 1974, thankyou. Now that I've re-found your website and my password - as I've lost so many (long story) I can now become a top lurker again I have a lot of reading to do with all the postings to catch up.
Thankyou too for the Trademe link. I did do a search, but I can't believe that you have alll that information 'come up' and I got absolutely nothing!! Google hates me too
Regards and thanks again.

My cup and saucer, and egg cups!
My DB cup and saucer are a tulip, both have a gold edge, but have no stamp at all on them
only a 3 digit impressed number (which I cant make out maybe 781) and a scawled backwards 7 on the cup and just the 7 on the saucer
The egg cups (one with a beauty spot ) have the same motif which goes under to the base
have the super vitrified stamp and are impressed New Zealand

Re: DB Ltd Cup and Plate
Hard Boiled Eggs in DB Hotels , I don't think so.
Whilst at home we like 4 minutes to get a set white and nicely runny yolk ,
in hotels including the odd DB I used to order two 3 minute eggs and generally they would be just fine. Can't abide hardboiled for breakfast and have been known to send them back and suggest that the chef might like to add them to a salad at lunch.
What an amazing collection of DB marked items have appeared so far.
