Hanmer Pottery
Does anyone know when Hanmer Pottery ceased? It began in the early 1960s and I can recall it being around in the 1980s and 1990s? but having moved away from Canterbury we no longer visit Hanmer Springs . Thanks Howard

Hi Howard,
I don't know the answer to your question, but hope that someone will help.

Thanks. I'm hoping to speak to someone in Hanmer who may have the answer and will let you know.

Re: Hanmer Pottery
Hi Howard
Naomi Nelson has recently written a brief history of the pottery for an exhibition at Hanmer Library- in it she writes the business closed the night before GST started. Google tells me GST was introduced in New Zealand October 1986.
This should help you track down a date.

Hanmer Pottery
Hi there
I have followed the thread right through so you have had lots of iinformation regarding the pottery. My husband and I worked with Jim and Naomi in 1980/81. My husband is Jim's nephew. It was an interesting time and we left Hanmer to start our own pottery in Rotorua. As is mentioned in the threads Jim passed away a few years ago and Naomi is now in a nursing home. They were very private people and as mentioned shunned publicity. They had enormously high standards. If you would like any more information or want us to answer specific questions please feel free to ask.
