JR mystery mark plus June Reay
The mark is light, but I think you can see it ok
and the vase/pot. It is like stoneware.

June Reay.........
Hi ... I have a large collection of June's work and would just about put many dollars on this piece NOT being by her. None of the pieces that I have are signed and I have never been aware of any mark specifically hers. The whole shape/finish/decoration of the bottle is absolutely nothing like her work. Cheers.

Re: JR mystery mark plus June Reay
Thanks for alerting us to this, I will remove the mark in the gallery. This is where we found the mark http://www.nzpotters.com/PottersMarks/PottersMark_Image.cfm?potterID=184 and it is also in the NZ Potters marks book. Could you send us some photos of her work please, it would be great to identify her style.

Re: JR mystery mark plus June Reay
R L Pike has sent me this e-mail:
Hi anne .. found this platter this week. I felt sure it was June Reay’s (before I saw the initials on the underside)! have emailed June in Australia and had confirmation that it is indeed hers. I think it’s gorgeous and VERY different from the other samples of her work. First time, EVER, I’ve seen June sign any pots. Thought you might like to file it wherever those other images went to.
This last photo shows a similar mark to the one we have. Have added your mark to the gallery Lynda

Re: JR mystery mark plus June Reay
Hi .. I commented earlier that although that bottle has JR on the base, it is NOT June's work. There's NOTHING about the shape/glaze/decoration or overall quality of the piece that would link it to June. I can understand your comment about putting the mark "back into the gallery where it should have stayed" as my photo of the platter yesterday has confirmed that June has used her initials in this way (as I think just about anyone with those initials would combine them this way) but I hope the stoneware bottle is not linked with June's name. I know of another local potter whose initials are the same and whose work was presumed to be June's simply because of the initials JR on the base.
