Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
I have just had a look at a Tulip shape against the DBHL (Dominion Breweries Hotels
Ltd) cup that I found a few weeks ago and posted to the gallery and it seems to me that the size and shape are the same as the one that mrnarna was given today at J&D. Fascinating , shape unknown before and then two pop up within a short space of time.
The top of the smaller cup is level with the top of the handle on the Tulip it seems to me. Some careful measurements will confirm.

Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
Any chance of you comparing the brown shallow cup with the Teal Air NZ cup shape please narna? I may have a shape number if they appear to be the same....?mrnarna wrote:this was a freebie from Junk & Disorderly
fatbum shape? 753?
Is the "fatbum" that looks like a tulip cup, and fits the same saucers, the 753 shape?
BTW: I was told in years gone by (30+) that the shape we call a "tulip cup" is a TEA cup,
and the other, the "fatbum", is a COFFEE cup.
Is that anyone else's understanding?

Cat do you still have this cup? Is it small or a decent size?
If you have it could you post the measurements please ......
Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
Hi Ev, I do indeed and the cup is 76mm (exactly 3 inches) high, 85mm top diameter, about 60mm across at base and 45mm bottom ring diameter

Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
Thanks Cat, would you call it a teacup or s large cup? I will measure mine asap.
Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
Coffee or tea cup I guess, it holds 200ml (filled to a drinkable level, not to the brim)

Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
I did a quick ruler measure with mine ..... 75 high x 80 across top x 45 across the footring.
Mine is definitely a small teacup/coffee cup and very similar to your one Cat. However newbie talks about his one being a decent size, so I gather that there are two sizes in this shape. Just have to find a big one to confirm this .....

Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
Just glad I still had the cup to hand (i WENT INTO THAT CUPBOARD JUST LAST WEEKEND, UPON VISITING A FRIEND WHO IS A FELLOW COLLECTOR - DANG capslock!!! - and fished out a nice duo to give her, could easily have been this one, but I went with a nice duck egg blue 'symphony british' one.).
I will check my top diameter measurement again to make sure mind is indeed 85, not 80mm - my tape measure is not exactly easy to read and with the other measurements corresponding, it does put a wee nagging doubt into my mind. Did you measure from very outside edges of cup as opposed to the inner rim measurement?
Would be useful (or at the least, interesting!) to find out the capacity of the "newbie's" cup

Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
I have a couple of these cups, both have 3 gold lines, but one has bold lines (like the photo) and the other has very thin lines, and both are Kelston Potteries. The one with bold lines is 77mm high, 45mm base ring, and 87mm diameter outside and 84mm inside. The one with thin lines is 75mm high, 45mm base ring, and 84mm outside diameter and 80mm inside. Probably not much help, other than to say that the one with bold lines is slightly thicker walled than the other.
As for a decent cup, compared to say, a 3056, then this would be a decent sized cup.

Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
How odd is it that Heather's 700 Railway cup isn't in the Shape Gallery ...... ?
It appears to have vanished, so I will put your pic in now thanks Kat.
Val's blog says that the article about the vitrified ware was from 1968.
The eggcup is in the gallery as shape 711.
We are working on the other cup shape numbers, so watch this space!

Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
sorry I should have found that! but 1968 is quite late, do you have any idea when this shape was first made?

Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
that's quite late too, sorry it's just Val's book has this backstamp as earlier & guess this is dumb but I have been wondering why this shape didn't get much decoration/transfers mostly NZR? especially when they were made for so long..maybe it was for that very reason aye..who wants NZR cups..

Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
Actually this has been bothering me, as Heather's 700 was in the gallery and I can't recall why it was taken off.
Re: Crown Lynn cup shapes
Open question here... on the cup shape (list number 3000's) there is mention of Air NZ DC10 cup and Air NZ DC10 Soup bowl. I have seen photographs of brown cups and bowls. I wonder if those are the ones? Or would they be super-vitrified... who has some of those to check it out?
