1065 John Reid & Co Ltd 1869 - 1969
Was very pleased to find the John Reid Thistle tankard that was made at Luke Adams for Crown Lynn. Bad light today, so the glaze looks much darker than it really is. These were often seen on Trademe once upon a time and were very popular, but I haven't seen one for a long time now.

The glaze name is Lucow and the Deco.No is 147

Re: 1065 John Reid & Co Ltd 1869 - 1969
I've often wondered who John Reid & Co Ltd were and I found the answer today.
They were an Auckland Liquor Company who ended up merging with L.D. Nathan in the 1970's. A book was written about the company in 1969 to commemorate their 100 years in business.

Janice, if you don't get back to that one there will be another: they keep turning up.
Sometimes on trademe sellers manage to make their photos of the Lucow glaze look brown so I make a point of asking, just in case some Reid mugs were made in the Basalt glaze.
Jim's one, right, below, is different. I have had it at home all year but returned it yesterday only to take two lousy photos. This is the least bad. Even so, you should be able to detect a lack of the blue pooling typical of Lucow glaze, as seen on my one on the left. I think Jim's is an Auckland (Titian) glaze.
