Re: Is this Titian or Aquila ?? This is not Titian or Aquila, but is an import.
Aquila was a brand name used by Titian.
This looks like the Titian 'Stonehenge' glaze with cave drawings.

Oh, thank you Ev, you are a perpetual help to me and my questions !! Yes, they do look like cave drawings, but as it was sold to me as Egyptian, I was a little concerned about the pattern, which is why I asked. So, next silly question: This would have been made at Titian before any link with Crown Lynn ? Don't get me wrong, I really like it, was just worried about the actual origin. I am labelling some pieces to put away for my daughter, and am trying to include a little history with the pieces for her reference.

It's definitely Titian and nothing to do with Crown Lynn whatso ever.
Gail Henry page 164 mentions the Stonehenge glaze that was used with Spanish cave drawings or Egyptian motifs.
I will check google to see if he/she can help

[You should get her brilliant book New Zealand Pottery sunshine ]
This range was made at Titian Studio Henderson 1958 -65
Vases: Stonehenge glazed and hand decorated designs of the famous cave paintings from Lascaux in the Dordogne region of France. Dishes were also made in this range.

Yes I did, my first ! I am glad you are keeping any eye on me so I don't slip up too badly. What do you think of my latest purchase? I went with a good feeling on this one, not really sure who made it.

I love it !! Watched it last time around.
Couldn't decide who the maker was either.
Very similar shape to the Titian Patu in the Titian Gallery, but it is more refined.

Not too sure about this piece sunny, as the titianpottery blog says that Titian only used one cave drawing pattern and your pot doesn't match.
Check out the blog - try looking under the title Stonehenge ...?

Interested in this one
On the Blog the glazes are not as dark on top. I have bought a large vase with similar design to the vase shown on this thread. I have heard of japanese copies but through rumour only so it would be good to know if this is Titian / Aquila or indeed a copy??

Ucagco Japan
I have a little unmarked piece that looks like Stonehenge but apparently isn't.
In Sallies this morning I saw a lovely piece but like my other the stencil did not match the Titian. It didn't look like my other one either.
Today's piece carried a sticker "Ucagco Japan".
A google image search under Ucagco didn't turn up anything at all like it.
A quick summary of Ugagco in the tvlamps site.

I'll photograph the Sallies piece if it's still there next visit.
Is this a case of perhaps two overseas companies copying Titian or was Titian just one of many potteries making similar pieces?

I'm not sure at all that Titian would have been copied by Japanese potteries ....?
There will be more than the two potteries as I've seen a fair amount of these decorations around over the years. It was fashionable at one time and I still like it as it harks of times long gone.

I found a Ucagco made in Japan jug with a similar motive.
