Dorothy Thorpe Monterrey Ball Handle Gravy Jug
I have in my collection this Monterrey Gravy Jug, I find it unusual in terms of its size, it seems massive, out of proportion relative to the rest of the ball handle range, and the ball itself is about twice the size of the regular balls. I have posted a picture of a regular ball handled creamer next to it to give you an idea of the difference in size. You folk agree? unusual?

Re: Dorothy Thorpe Monterrey Ball Handle Gravy Jug
I noticed one of these huge ball handled gravy jugs yesterday at the Auckland Museum in the Encounter Gallery.... it was pink and I was like Wooooooo!!
I've been to that Gallery many times and yet I'd never noticed it before!??
It's marvellous to see a photo on here ..... thank you
Does it have a number on the base at all?

Re: Dorothy Thorpe Monterrey Ball Handle Gravy Jug
Thanks again
I could find the ball handled milk jug number - 6010, but not the gravy jug.
These gravy jugs must be few are far between huh?
Even Billy Apple didn't have any in his collection at the Crown Lynn Exhibition ...

Yes I'm thinking they are rare too, I have all 6 Dorothy Thorpe patterns in my collection but this is the only gravy jug I have.

Re: Dorothy Thorpe Monterrey Ball Handle Gravy Jug
..... and it sold for the princely sum of $294.00 how about that!
Re: Dorothy Thorpe Monterrey Ball Handle Gravy Jug
I would have thought it would fetch a little more than that, not sure if the absence of a back stamp made it worth any less?

Re: Dorothy Thorpe Monterrey Ball Handle Gravy Jug
And here was me thinking that was an awesome price
It's definitely Dorothy Thorpe .... surely a backstamp wouldn't have made a difference? But then I don't collect her wares ....?
Heheee I've seen you around on Trade Me for years Duckie

Re: Dorothy Thorpe Monterrey Ball Handle Gravy Jug
Well I am best described as a Dorothy Thorpe collector with a minor fetish for less interesting Crown Lynn pieces
