The jars were only ever decorative items - all the talk of ginger growers and importers is hallucinatory but they're Crown Lynn products - there are buckets of shards of them in the Portage collection.

I understand that the Ginger Jars were made for a well known Chinese Fruit and Vegie merchant who filled them with preserved ginger for the local Chinese community

Thanks everyone, I know so little, but am addicted to Crown Lynn now, I can't help myself! I am so very glad this website is here to help. What a wonderful resource it is. I must thank all those who do all the hard work and contribute, you are all awesome!! This will be such a great resource for the next generation!
