Crown Lynn vase #1 ?
[url=https://servimg.com/view/16315686/31]
I always thought this was a Crown Lynn vase in the #1 shape, although unmarked, but now I am confused. I found one that looks the same on Trade Me
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=382566953
but, it is a different colour (mine is cream with a fine silver splatter all over and at the top inside) and the measurements are different, mine is 130mm high and 80mm diameter at the top, whereas theirs is 140mm high and 90mm diameter. Also, can it possibly be worth what they are asking for it? It must be absolutely mint!

Re: Crown Lynn vase #1 ?
Well your vase certainly looks the same as the No1 shape in the Gallery mumof1
HeatherT has mentioned how Crown Lynn swans differ in size ...
so it's no surprise to see vases do as well.
Good luck to the trader with such a high start price
By the way the vase was slipcast ... not handmade and sold by Crown Lynn as a bisqued blank to Salisbury's who covered them with paint and called them their own
A long time ago I might add and they still look lovely I think, though there isn't much interest shown in them at the moment. These can still be found at opshops for a dollar or so. I always want to rescue these old ladies and have quite a collection

Re: Crown Lynn vase #1 ?
Thank you so much EV, I was a little disappointed to think mine wasn't what I thought. I remember picking it up and saying to my husband 'Look, that's got to be a Crown Lynn, I must have it!' He thought I was mad, he couldn't understand how I could tell just by looking at it, when there were no markings.

Re: Crown Lynn vase #1 ?
Hi
I think measurements can be tricky as people have different techniques. Tapes, especially if they're fabric, can stretch or be inaccurate.
This piece has a barely distinguishable circular "Made in N. Z." backstamp and running glaze typical of the early period. I think it's 85mm diameter at its rim and 135mm tall, bottom of base to top of rim:

Re: Crown Lynn vase #1 ?
Thank you Tony. I notice that your vase is glazed, even on the base, whereas mine is painted in a very thin cream layer which is peeling, so the base is basically unglazed or bare.

Re: Crown Lynn vase #1 ?
Ambrico (early Crown Lynn) sold "blanks" - undecorated pots - to the likes of Salisbury and Royal Oak. These were decorated and sold under the label of whoever decorated them, so you will find different types of decoration common. I have a couple of these, one is Salisbury and one "Sunset" - the latter has a sticker on it.

Re: Crown Lynn vase #1 ?
I like this as "mattone" is Italian for brick so Mattone Ware may be an acknowledgement of Crown Lynn's origins.

Ambrico Salisbury number 1
I believe this number 1 vase is my first Ambrico-Crown-Lynn piece for Salisbury.
The S and A of Salisbury are just legible on the sticker.
$6 Wellsford Hospice shop.
