Oh my goodness...... I saw this on ebay recently and thought 'why would Crown Lynn put gold lustre on an ashtray?' And now here is that piece that commemorates a special time in their history

Another similar ashtray courtesy of Fi, from Simon Manchester's collection at the Quartz Museum.
This one celebrates the 100 millionth piece of pottery made by Crown Lynn in 1959.
Many thanks to Fi and to Rick Rudd and to Simon Manchester.
Fi thinks that this is hand thrown, what are your thoughts Tony?

I don't know Ev. I gave the one I had to a friend who included it in the CL show at Gus Fisher. I don't recall anything about it that suggested it was thrown but I wasn't looking that closely. It was the backstamp that appealed to me.

These ashtrays are the Shape 860 which was slipcast.
The backstamp would have been done on the decal making machine.
