Hi people of pottery land,
-  Haven't posted before but I've often read posts, used the galleries for identifying items in my collection etc. Regarding a new vase I picked up recently at a market, I'm a bit stumped and wondering if anyone has any thoughts. It has a beehive form and the number 58 stamped on the base. There are no other marks I can discern. It seems to have a light pinkish/brownish clay and it has a matte light green finish. It's 17-18cm tall. I noticed that the hand-thrown Crown Lynn number 58 is the same shape and some examples have the beehive stripes - but mine has no neck. I also looked at some of the other earlyish NZ pottery galleries (Stancich - sorry spelling wrong!) I guess it could be English or Continental but I got a bit of an NZ vibe from it - prototype of some sort? Any ideas welcomed. Cheers, Pebs.

Thank you so much for posting this vase cheers

It appears to have been made by the Rancich/Silva pottery for Salisburys to decorate with paints and lacquers. c1939 -1944

We have a Gallery of their work, but it doesn't include the Shape 58, so I will add your photo and credit you for it Very Happy

Thanks so much for your thoughts Ev - I was hoping my little NZ maker vibe was correct! I left it on the stall at the market but thought better of it and raced back with some coins I found in the car to purchase it. Hurrah! I'll continue to post any interesting finds that I come across e.g. recently realized the little vase we have used at the bach for generations is a Number 2 Crown Lynn - will snap a picture of that when I get a chance. Cheers, Elaine.
