Re: Glen Afton Trough
Hi welly.c,
I have quite a few pieces of Glen Afton pottery and they are all stamped with a number.
Also they have all been decorated with paints and lacquers.
None are glazed.
To me this isn't made by Glen Afton and I can't come up with a NZ pottery that could have made it sorry.
Hopefully someone can help

Thanks welly.c.
Yes that trough looks a match even down to the glaze effects.
Of course they glazed things at Glen Afton and they fired them in saggars to protect them from the flame.
Things like chamber pots, mixing bowls, hot water bottles and vases.
I saw a vase glazed in a similar way in a Glen Afton collection.
I will adda link to the topic about that.
Thanks so much I have learnt heaps of new things this week and I must get me a glazed piece of Glen Afton

Thanks for that Ev, how exciting to have somewhat of an endorsement! It made me think that as much as the internet is great, books are a wonderful resource!
Go well, C.

Re: Glen Afton Trough
Yes indeed, though if you turn the page in that book there is a Japanese cave painting vase that is named as Titian :O A chap listed one using that book as provenance !! He still sold it to a Titian collector today, even after lengthy discussions to say it was Japanese
At least with a website things can be updated as new info comes to hand

Re: Glen Afton Trough
Oh, that is funny. And a worry. I myself paid a silly amount of money for a Titian vase because of a quirky glaze to only find out it was a home project for someone at some point.

Re: Glen Afton Trough
As a Brown family member ran Hobby Ceramic Classes, many of the Titian and Orzel moulds were used for that purpose.
If it feels light that is a clue that it's not Titian.
If it has initials and a year date that is another clue.
Also if the decoration isn't up to Titian high standards
