Really ???? That is so magic !!!
I would have thought that being that close to the Sth Pole you would see it more often ...
We have to go half way down the North Island to see magic like that.
It did snow in Auckland in ..... something like 1939 ??
I saw photos once at Rose Hellaby House in the Waitakeres .... Just like your link pics....

Snow closes Invercargill shops

Heavy snowfall has forced businesses to close up early in Invercargill, as another roof caves in
It's doors shut for most businesses in Invercargill today.
A thick blanket of snow still covers the city and is making driving conditions treacherous.
Our reporter in the city says the doors are closed at most businesses including H & J Smith's flagship department store. Some that opened today have had to close early including Harvey Norman, Mitre Ten Mega, Briscoes, E. Hayes and Sons, Waikiwi Countdown and the inner city Countdown supermarkets.
The roof on Wrens home decorating store on Yarrow Street has also completely caved in, and the area around the store has been cordoned off.
The main streets are clear to drive on but have sizeable snow drifts on the roadside. Police are still asking drivers to stay off all roads though unless absolutely necessary.
Air travel looks to be returning to normal with Air New Zealand flights down to leave as scheduled but a flight from Wellington to Invercargill has been cancelled.
Another cold front is forecast to hit Southland late tomorrow.
