Not sure who made these little beakers, but it wasn't Crown Lynn!
One just sold for $295 on Trade Me with a chip.
Many thanks to Mandi for letting us use her photos cheers

The reasons that I know Crown Lynn didn't make these are:

1.  These have been glazed all over and fired on stilts, which Crown Lynn didn't do.
2.  These are not in the Crown Lynn records.
3.  The clay is a dark colour and not one that Crown Lynn used.  Thanks to a chip in the one that just sold for letting me see the clay Smile
4.  Air NZ collectors are desperate for these.
5.  Te Papa have some and declare that Crown Lynn made them, but what do they know Wink
6.  They are the wrong weight for Crown Lynn Razz

Good on you Ev - that's great detail. Hope you get a chance to email Te Papa and tell them they have inaccurate records - am sure their curators and archivists would like to review your info and get their collection data accurate (as would we all given we all fund Te Papa's operating expenses through our taxes!) Keep up the great work Smile

As I don't know who made them yet, it would be futile to let them know.
I have contacted the Auckland Museum about wrong attributions for NZ Pottery and nothing has happened, after several years!
That's why I post all of my findings on this site, so at least there is another option for people searching for information.
Thanks for the encouragement Very Happy

That's really disappointing to hear that your voice has not been heard Ev. The responsibility for incorrect data lies with the museum's curator/s and if unsure they should say 'attributed to Crown Lynn' etc unless they are completely certain it is Crown Lynn. Well keep fighting the good fight - we're here to support your great work on this site!

Thanks again, but the thing is I have no degrees in Ceramics and I haven't written a book, so I understand the lack of interest.
I was encouraged by a person who worked at the Museum to contact them formally and let them know the mistakes. He even was able to give me direct contact details.
Yes I agree that it is disappointing, but they must be busy with other more important things.
My only credentials are that I am an obsessed NZ Pottery researcher Razz

Your knowledge is deep and learned. I've messaged Te Papa about the inaccuracy as they don't seem to allow public posts on their FB page. I'll let you know what happens.

Hi Ev - I've heard back from Te Papa and they agree that these beakers don't have 'Made in New Zealand' on the base, unlike the actual CL Air NZ beakers in their collection. I've provided them with your analysis and will let you know the outcome. I believe Air NZ has a part-time archivist who could potentially look at the historical invoices/purchase orders which may reveal where the smaller beakers were made.

I also note that Carters Antique Guide has them incorrectly attributed to Crown Lynn:

Thanks for that CrownPrince!
I was hoping to meet that Air Nz archivist when I visited Motat earlier this year, but it didn't eventuate.
