Is this McAlpine Jug real or fake?
With all the confusion over fakes how can I tell if this is real? It was from a women who I assumed had it since new but it does not have a mark on the bottom. If it is real how do you value it with all the different prices about.

Re: Is this McAlpine Jug real or fake?
A photo would help.
I did write out a quick way for anyone to tell which were the fakes but for technology reasons I no longer have access to it. The clue is that the jugs that appeared a few years ago were not from CL moulds like the Studio Ceramics ones but were made from scratch and the points at which the writing and the flutes intersected did not match. If you add any pictures it is important to show the handle too to know which side of the jug is being looked at.
If you are a member of the CL skite site Facebook group search “fake” there and you should find the discussion.

Is this McAlpine Jug real or fake?
Thankyou. I did see the previous post and the writing/flutes from left handle view showed it was CL. However I was told there should be some sort of mark or number on the bottom so was unsure. This is part of an estate donated for sale to a charity so we need to know what to sell it for. I did try to attach photos of left handle view of yellow jug but it cannot have worked. I am not a member of Facebook.

The Crown Lynn McAlpine jugs were not always stamped.
When I saw the fakes next to the real ones the first thing I noticed was that the fakes did not have a ridge down the middle of the handle.

A bit of a sidetrack here!
I wasn’t sure that my own single McAlpine jug had a stamp so I just reviewed it.
To my surprise it is not only stamped but dated too.
Scratched in the body under the glaze.
It appears to be 13-7-55, but that 7 could be a 1.
What surprises me now is that although it is vitrified it is clearly crazed. I thought they would have had such issues resolved by 1955.
